We are booked in a "large inside stateroom" with our 2 children. From looking at the pictures there are only 2 single beds, so it seems like the couch must pull out to become the bed to sleep the extra two people. But it doesn't state this anywhere. Has anyone stayed in these rooms with 4 people to tell me how the sleeping arrangements work?

On this particular ship, quads (rooms for 4 people) have 2 lower beds (which can be combined into 1 big bed), 1 sofa bed, and 1 upper bed (pulls down from the ceiling).

My cousin and her family have done this. It's OK, but I don't think you'll want to spend too much time in your cabin other than sleeping.

Yes, the beds come out of the wall, like a fold out bunk bed in most cases. Plenty of room, except after dinner when they pull these beds down and make them up for you. So try to pick up before you go to dinner...Also, take SOFT sided luggage to stuff under the beds when you unpack. Also, we designate the left end of the closet as a "hamper" to dump dirty clothes, and stuff them in a suitcase under the bed periodically. Done this OFTEN, and always had fun, just try to maintain a tiny bit of organization and the small space will be no big deal....

There are three ways this can be set up. One is a pull out couch that sleeps two. Another is a pull out couch that sleeps one plus a bed that come out of the ceiling. Or there could be two beds that come out of the ceiling, like the examples shown in the link below ...

It seems like it should say somewhere if your particular room can accommodate 3rd & 4th passengers. However, I don't think you would be able to book 4 people in a room for 2 (as in the website wouldn't allow you to). As for the other two beds, usually on cruises the couch doesn't pull out. It converts to a bed... the like take the cushions off and stuff and it becomes a bed. The other pulls out from the ceiling.

ya we were on the holland america, it was very good, very relaxing. Food was amazing at the nice restaurants. shopping not anything good, it's all too expensive. pool was goood. the service at holland america was excellent.

It was the first time our ship's captain had driven through the Panama Canal and he did a good job, didn't bump into anything.

Joni Butler Sings a Happy Birthday Song to my good friend Bernie Blackman on the Ryndam (Holland America) on our last day at sea. The Alaska cruise, 14 days long, ran from June 5th to June 19th 2009. You can tell Bernie was very touched by the whole thing. None of us had any idea Joni would call him up. I was fortunate enough to be sitting front and center and captured the flick on my little Panasonic DMC-FX9.

Holland America Ryndam Cruise Ship Horn in San Diego - March 25, 2009
The Ryndam announced a lifeboat drill in 5 minutes and I was ready to capture the ship's cruise ship horn. It went off at 4:15pm, and suffered from some kind of sonic pathology, not a clean, booming sound like the Carnival Elation. None the less, there was some pretty nice reverb, particularly evident after the long blast which followed the seven short ones.

Watch the small trickle followed by more and more ice, until a huge piece finally collapses into the sea. The Captain doesn't have time to reposition the boat to avoid the impending waves. The sound of the ice hitting the water was very loud, like dynamite exploding. (although it doesn't seem loud as recorded by my little camera, a Panasonic FX9) I believe my camera attenuated the loud noise. On June 12, 2009 we took an excursion from our cruise ship the MS Ryndam. The port was Seward Alaska and the tour boat was the Orca Voyager owned by Kenai Fjords Tours. This was one of the highlights of our cruise. I would recommend it to anyone, but bring a heavy coat. It was cold.
